Did you know

In 1953, a fledgling company called Rocket Chemical Company and its staff of three set out to create a line of rust-prevention solvents and degreasers for use in the aerospace industry, in a small lab in San Diego, California. It took them 40 attempts to get the water displacing formula worked out. But they must have been really good, because the original secret formula for WD-40®—which stands for Water Displacement perfected on the 40th try—is still in use today.

A few years following WD-40's first industrial use, Rocket Chemical Company founder Norm Larsen experimented with putting WD-40 into aerosol cans, reasoning that consumers might find a use for the product at home as some of the employees had. The product made its first appearance on store shelves in San Diego in 1958. In 1960 the company nearly doubled in size, growing to seven people, who sold an average of 45 cases per day from the trunk of their cars to hardware and sporting goods stores in the San Diego area.

There are a multitude of uses for this product and here is a list of a few:

1. Protects silver from tarnishing.

2. Removes road tar and grime from your car.

3. Give floors that "just-waxed" sheen without making them slippery.

5. Keeps flies off cows.

6. Restores and cleans chalkboards.

7. Removes lipstick stains.

8. Untangles jewelry chains.

9. Removes stains from stainless steel sinks.

10. Keeps ceramic/terra cotta garden pots from oxidizing.

11. Keeps glass shower doors free of water spots.

12. Removes tomato stains from clothing.

13. Removes black scuff marks from the kitchen floor.

14. Gives a children's playground gym slide a shine for a super fast slide.

15. Lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier to open.

16. Spraying an umbrella stem makes it easier to open and close.

17. Keeps bathroom mirrors from fogging.

18. Removes all traces of duct tape.

19. Keeps pigeons off the balcony (they hate the smell).

20. Relieves arthritis pain when sprayed on arms, hands and knees.

21. Since the basic ingredient is FISH OIL sprayed on live fishing bait or lures attracts fish.

22. Removes the sting of fire ant bites.

23. Removes crayon from walls.

The view

This is the space needle in Seattle, Washington and the view from the top is totally amazing!! The elevator ride to the top at 10 mph wasn't my favorite part, but oh to see the 360 degree view over the whole city is truly magnificent. This is one of the many sites left from the World's Fair held here in 1962.

We made a short little trip here this past week-end to escape the heat for a few days and the weather was luscious indeed but like most trips there were a few unexpected things as well.....such as huge crowds everywhere we went, hills to climb (was informed that Seattle is the sister city of San Francisco) and high prices.

However this clever foot rest in our hotel room was a pleasant surprise.

Have you been able to watch the latest comedy show?

One lawyer trying to question another lawyer........You have never heard so much side stepping under the guise of professionalism! It is no wonder nothing ever gets done. They all are suppose to be really smart and maybe that is why they just don't make any sense to me but whatever happened to "let your yea be yea and your nay be nay".

Perspectives

When I was a young girl the 4th of July meant going to my Grandmother's house which was on Mount Vernon St. in Prescott, Az. and watching the parade pass as they headed to the center of town and then on to the rodeo.......

I only attended the fireworks once or twice and basically wasn't very impressed but oh, how I loved the Rodeo.
After I married we still weren't big fireworks goers but did get in the go camping in the cool country group and enjoyed that.
After our daughter has grown and married the 4th of July has become a get together, sit in the pool to stay cool and BBQ which is the plan for the day but my thoughts are on many other things like:

The opening of the Statue of Liberty and the story my Dad told me of how when he was on the Queen Mary being shipped over seas to go to war and they sailed past her.......he thought he would never see it again. I am grateful to be able to say that he did make it back home from World War II but he was never the same innocent young man he was before. Tucked away in a old metal picnic basket are things from my Dad's war days. and looking at the dog tags, I remember how he told me the purpose of them was so that if you were killed on the battlefield someone was to jam them into you teeth so that you could be identified. It makes me sad that there is little on the media to really express the meaning of our Independence Day.....sacrifice for freedom. Most of what I see is tidbits of BBQing, what's the best beer, and most of all......Michael Jackson's memorial. A man that never served in the military, enjoyed all that freedom has to offer and self destructed right before our eyes.

I never told my Dad "Thank You for serving our country" and maybe you just have to get old to see the real truth but with all my heart I say Thank You......................
